Job Purpose

Review pressure equipment design drawings/calculations from clients to ensure that they meet the applicable codes of construction. Create 3D models, run and interpret FEA results. Manage Canadian Registration Number project submissions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Use SolidWorks software to create parametric models for use as a design tool, in FEA analysis and to create complete packages of detail drawings for manufacturing and/or fabrication
Review of Pressure Equipment drawings and calculations
Understanding the code of construction
Choosing the correct software package/calculation method [Refer to knowledge]
Creating drawing mark ups
Completion of Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Determining what type of model is required
Choosing the correct type of analysis/software (Ansys/SolidWorks)
Interpreting the results
Generating FEA Report, per internal procedures
Making clear recommendations to clients for code compliant designs with assistance from Peer Reviewer
Develops broad knowledge and skills in specific areas including but not limited to: Pressure Vessels, Fittings, Heat Exchangers, FEA, Piping, and Pipe Stress Analysis
Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for nonroutine aspects of assignments
May give technical guidance and support to Co-op students and those in Engineering I
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills, Experience:

Excellent oral and written proficiency in English
Experience with some, if not all relevant ASME Codes (Section I, II, IV, VIII, IX, B31.1, B31.3)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and Outlook)
Commercial pressure vessel software experience an asset (Compress, PV Elite, DesignCalcs)
5 to 10 years of Pressure equipment design experience
Advanced FEA skills, with Ansys/Nozzle Pro/SolidWorks Simulation considered an asset
Experience with SolidWorks or other 3d modeling required
Able to work independently and in small groups when required
Strong project management, organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to make sound engineering decisions based on available information.
Able to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
Hold a P.Eng or C.E.T certification or is eligible to apply for one.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technologist diploma
