Piping System With Spring Hanger Stress Analysis

Introduction

PVEng was contracted to perform a pipe stress analysis on a new piping system layout which was to replace an existing system. For the new piping layout, the customer wanted to use the existing Spring Hanger location and install a new Spring Hanger for the new operating loads.

A model of the piping system was created in Caesar II using the client provided drawings and design data. Conservatively it was assumed that the Nozzles N4 and N5 are fully restrained. The load setup values for the existing Spring Hanger were not provided, so the client requested PVEng to make recommendations on Spring Hanger operating load value, size and type.

The piping internal design pressure was 2,337 psi @ 374 °F and the fluid media was urea solution.

Recommended Spring Hanger to be used in this application based on CAESER II Output values was:
Anvil B-268, Type F, Size 8.

Below are the highlights of an example of a typical pipe stress analysis report for a small piping system with spring hanger.
